Accra, Ghana — Several youth organizations have launched a large-scale clean-up exercise across parts of Accra in an effort to improve sanitation and reduce environmental pollution.
The campaign brought together volunteers, students, community leaders, and local businesses who participated in clearing gutters, collecting refuse, and cleaning public spaces.
The exercise took place in communities including Nima, Madina, Kaneshie, and Teshie.
Organizers say the initiative aims to promote environmental responsibility and encourage residents to maintain cleaner surroundings.
“Sanitation is everybody’s responsibility. We cannot continue blaming authorities alone,” one organizer stated.
Large quantities of plastic waste and debris were removed from drainage systems during the operation.
Environmental officers participating in the exercise warned that poor waste disposal remains one of the major causes of flooding in urban communities.
Residents welcomed the initiative and called for similar exercises to be organized regularly.
City authorities also praised the effort and promised greater collaboration with community groups to improve waste management across the capital.
