Kumasi, Ghana — Religious leaders in Kumasi have appealed to political supporters and community members to maintain peace and unity ahead of upcoming local elections.
The call was made during an interfaith gathering attended by church leaders, youth groups, civil society organizations, and traditional authorities.
Speakers at the event emphasized the importance of tolerance, dialogue, and respect during the electoral period.
“Elections should not divide families and communities. Ghana’s peace must remain our priority,” a senior pastor stated.
The leaders urged political parties to conduct issue-based campaigns and avoid inflammatory language capable of creating tension.
Security officials at the event assured residents that adequate measures are being put in place to ensure safety before, during, and after the elections.
Political analysts say community engagement by religious and traditional leaders often plays an important role in promoting peaceful democratic processes.
Meanwhile, several youth organizations have also pledged to support awareness campaigns aimed at preventing electoral violence.
