Kumasi, Ghana — Police in the Ashanti Region have launched a manhunt for a group of armed robbers who attacked a gold dealer and made away with large sums of cash and valuables during a late-night operation in Kumasi.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspects — believed to be heavily armed — stormed the businessman’s residence shortly after midnight on Tuesday. Residents reported hearing gunshots as the attackers forced their way into the compound.
The robbers allegedly tied up security personnel and family members before ransacking the house for nearly 30 minutes.
Police sources say the gang escaped with cash, gold ornaments, mobile phones, and other valuables estimated to be worth hundreds of thousands of Ghana cedis.
No deaths were recorded during the incident, although two persons reportedly sustained minor injuries while attempting to flee.
One resident described the situation as terrifying.
“We heard loud bangs and people screaming. Nobody could come outside because everyone feared the robbers were still around,” a neighbour said.
Security officers arrived at the scene after the attackers had fled.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has since begun investigations and is reviewing CCTV footage from nearby buildings to identify the suspects.
Authorities are also urging residents and business owners to improve private security arrangements amid rising concerns over robbery attacks targeting wealthy individuals and traders.
Meanwhile, local leaders are calling for increased police patrols in residential areas to strengthen public confidence and improve community safety.
