Accra, Ghana — Organizers of the Ghana Movie Awards have unveiled several new categories aimed at recognizing young filmmakers and digital content creators across the country.
The announcement was made during a media launch event attended by actors, producers, directors, and entertainment stakeholders in Accra.
According to organizers, the new categories will include awards for Best Online Skit Creator, Best Digital Series, and Emerging Young Director.
Officials say the changes reflect the rapid growth of online entertainment platforms and the increasing influence of digital creators in Ghana’s film industry.
“The entertainment landscape is evolving, and it is important for award schemes to move with the times,” an event organizer stated.
Several young content creators have welcomed the decision, describing it as a major opportunity for upcoming talents to gain national recognition.
Film industry experts also believe the move could encourage greater investment in local productions and help expand Ghana’s creative economy.
The awards ceremony is expected to attract celebrities and entertainment personalities from across West Africa later this year.
Meanwhile, discussions continue within the industry over funding challenges, piracy concerns, and the need for stronger support systems for local filmmakers.
