LEGON — The Department of Dance Studies at the University of Ghana has successfully concluded its multi-day dance carnival, held under the vibrant banner “Dancing Our Stories.”
The annual event took a highly innovative turn this year by forming a strategic corporate partnership with Samsung Ghana, effectively blending classical Ghanaian traditional dance with cutting-edge digital experiences. The carnival grounds saw a fluid mix of traditional ensembles—performing historic dances such as the Agbadza, Kpanlogo, and Adowa—alongside highly energetic, modern street-inspired Afro-pop choreography.
Through Samsung’s tech integrations, student creators and choreographers were able to utilize digital backdrops, interactive visual displays, and mobile technology to expand their visual storytelling. Faculty heads praised the collaboration, noting that bringing multinational digital brands into academic creative spaces proves that traditional African dance forms can easily evolve alongside modern global technologies without losing their core cultural value.
